Fitted wardrobes and bedroom furniture in Ireland
Storage that fits the room
Fitted wardrobes and bedroom furniture in Ireland can make the most of awkward spaces such as sloped ceilings, alcoves and narrow box rooms. Options range from flat-pack units you assemble yourself to fully bespoke wardrobes made and fitted by a local joiner.
On Archizone you can browse listed wardrobe makers, joiners and furniture suppliers, see what they offer and contact them directly. It is free for buyers. You can also see our list of kitchen and furniture makers in Ireland, many of whom also make bedroom furniture.
Bespoke or flat-pack
Bespoke fitted wardrobes. Made to your measurements, so they can run floor to ceiling, follow a sloped ceiling and fill odd corners. They usually cost more and take longer, but use the space fully.
Modular fitted systems. Standard carcasses in set sizes, finished with filler panels and doors to look built in. A middle ground on price and lead time.
Flat-pack. Lowest cost and quickest to get, but sizes are fixed and walls in older Irish houses are rarely square, so gaps are common.
Sliding or hinged doors
Sliding doors. Good where there is little floor space in front of the wardrobe. Ask about the track quality, soft-close and whether the doors can be mirrored or glazed.
Hinged doors. Let you see the whole interior at once and suit smaller units. You need clear space for the doors to swing.
Interior layout. Plan hanging rails, shelves, drawers and shoe storage around what you actually own. Long hanging space for coats and dresses is often forgotten.
Measuring and lead times
Let the supplier measure. For fitted work, most suppliers carry out their own survey. Floors, walls and ceilings that are out of level are allowed for at this stage.
Check services. Note sockets, switches, radiators and skirting boards before the design is finalised.
Ask for drawings. A simple plan with door positions and the interior layout helps avoid surprises on fitting day.
Lead times. Bespoke wardrobes are made to order, so ask each supplier for the time from sign-off to fitting, especially before busy periods.

FAQ
How deep should a fitted wardrobe be?
It needs enough depth for clothes to hang on a rail without touching the doors, and sliding doors need extra room for the track. Your supplier will advise on the depth for your chosen door type.
Can fitted wardrobes go under a sloped ceiling?
Yes. Bespoke makers regularly build wardrobes that follow the slope of an attic or dormer room, using shorter hanging space and shelves at the low end.
How long does fitting take?
A single fitted wardrobe is often installed in a day. Larger bedroom schemes take longer, so ask your supplier for a schedule when you request a quote.
